A GRATEFUL mum has thanked everyone who rushed to help her daughter after she cracked her head open in a park accident.

Lea-Shea May, 10, was playing with friends in Kings Road park when the seat of a swing struck her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground and leaving her with a deep gash.

Mum Aimee May wasn’t in the park at the time but described the scene as a bit of a bloody mess when she arrived, and has praised all the children and parents who offered help.

After a short ambulance trip, Holy Trinity Primary pupil LeaShea had the cut glued back together, and is recovering well.

Aimee said: “I got a call from a parent (Toni Beale) saying there’s been an accident and Lea-Shea was bleeding quite heavily.

“Obviously that scared me quite a lot and I rushed down there.

“Celine Ryan and Jo Clark (als parents) were already giving her first aid, a couple of the children offered to run and get their family members who are paramedics.

"A little boy, Will Gerrard, offered to give me his portable charger because I was panicked my phone would run out of battery.

“Everyone was fantastic and so calm, it wasn’t a pretty sight at all but people didn’t crowd around, they all gave her space and just offered to help.”

Mum Aimee also praised the ambulance service, who she said were amazing, calm and reassuring throughout.

She added: “In all honesty, although it was a nasty situation, it was really nice to see the concern.

“I expected to arrive and see all the children gathered round and filming, but there was nothing like that. A group of the boys waited by the gates so when the ambulance arrived they could let them in.

“Really, I just need to say a massive thank you to everyone, it is very easy to turn your back in that situation but everyone rushed to help.”

An ambulance service spokesman said: “An ambulance crew attended to a report of a girl who had suffered a head injury in Kings Road, Halstead. The girl was treated at the scene for a minor head injury and was taken to Colchester General Hospital for further care.”
