VILLAGERS are growing tiresome of waiting for the transfer of a historically important building to its parish council.

Sible Hedingham residents fought tooth and nail to save the old Natwest Bank, on Swan Street, from demolition.

The building was due to be transferred from Bloor Homes to the parish council by February 1, alongside Pocket Park.

But delays in what the parish council have branded ‘minor jobs’ mean the developers are not in a position to transfer the bank.

Chairman Ron Volkwyn said: “There is just a couple of very little things that need doing that we are disputing at the moment.

“They agreed to put up an obelisk which was paid for from separate section 106 money, which they have done, but they were supposed to put a light in, which they have not. They also dug a small pathway which they where supposed to fill in, but have not.

“It is quite frustrating because we do not deal directly with Bloor, we have to go back and forth with Braintree Council, and Bloor have told them the work is complete. I think the whole village is looking forward to the transfer, and we are confident it will be complete in the next couple of weeks.”

The transfer of the bank will also include £20,000 to be used for repairs.

A spokesman for Bloor Homes Eastern said: “We are currently carrying out some final works to the pocket park at our Earl’s Garden development which will enable us to start the process of transferring the former Natwest Bank building and the £20,000 funding contribution towards its refurbishment to the parish council. This will take place as soon as is practicably possible.”
