SIBLE Hedingham's inaugural community Christmas Tree light switch-on event was a huge success.

More than 200 people attended, gathering around the tree to spread Christmas cheer throughout the village.

This was the first year a community Christmas tree has been put up in the town, and following the success of this year's event the Parish Council are hoping to make it an annual tradition.

Clerk, Glenda McCoyd, said: "It went very, very well.

"We weren't sure how it would go, but it is great to see the community come together as one.

"We are so pleased with how it went, we are definitely hoping to make it an annual event."

St Peter's Primary ran a competition which saw lucky winner, Jack Smith, tasked with the responsibility of switching the lights on.

The primary school's choir, along with many members of the audience, sung carols, while the Co-op supplied mince pies for the evening.

Baubles were offered to residents to write a message on and then place on the tree.

Glow sticks were handed out, and festive cheer was high as the community welcomed the start of Christmas celebrations.
