POLICE had to intervene after a Halstead house party got out of hand.

Police were called to Willow Way in Halstead after neighbours had their cars smashed into and tyres popped as a large group of party-goers took over the road.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, had her car tyre popped by a glass bottle. She said: “It was just a bit of a nightmare.

“Word got around more than it should have done – goodness knows how many people were there in the end. My neighbour called the police as they had put a bottle behind the wheel of our car so when we reversed back it popped the tyre.

“It was just so loud and it went on for so long.”

She said the party lasted from about 10pm until long after midnight, when the police cordoned off the road.

One family said they witnessed cars racing up and down the road.

The father said: “I reckon there was well over 100 people there.

“There was a young lad that reversed straight into a neighbour’s car and then drove off. There was glass everywhere and they were leaving bottles on the boots of cars.

“They scattered down the road when the police turned up.”

Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “There were tons of people, even girls urinating in the street.

“Social media plays a big part in it, it just got really out of hand.”

A resident at the house insisted disturbances in the street were caused by people who were not at the party.

A spokesman for Essex Police said officers called at about 12.05am on Sunday morning.

She said: “Officers attended and found a disturbance involving a group of people. As officers arrived the group dispersed.”
