A FESTIVAL in memory of a talented musician raised £1372.25 for the charity in his honor.

CozFest took place on September 17 in Russels Road in Gosfield to honor the memory of Coran “Coz” Powell, who was tragically killed in a car accident in December 2014.

More than 150 people attended the event which saw local bands perform and a barbecue and entertainment.

Gennie Powell, Coz's mother, said: "I was completely amazed because we did not have the turn out we wanted because of the weather.

"It is overwhelming to see the continued support, like people that have already donated to the land fund have now donated to the charity.

"Things with the charity are moving forward now.

"I have been in contact with the land owner to see whether he would be willing to sell us it.

Gennie's niece also ran the Sydney Marathon, raising another £1,000 towards the total, making £2,372.25.

A special message recorded by heavy metal band Bullet for My Valentine was played to crowds at the festival.

Gennie said: "The support they have given us is phenomenal. They lets us know when they are playing near us and invite us to go along.

"We would definitely like to keep it going as a fundraiser.

"Maybe we would be able to get them to play at a future edition, you never know.

“We would like to thank Witham, Braintree Marks Farm and Braintree Town centre Tesco who donated loads to help our tombola.”
