HEALTH professionals are urging members of the public to consider other options before going to A&E in mid-Essex.
There are unprecedented numbers of very sick patients attending A&E departments in mid-Essex (Braintree, Maldon and Chelmsford) and people are advised to seek alternative options today and over the weekend as there will be long waits.
This is due in part to an increase in demand right across the county.
Non-emergency options include:
- Minor injuries units
- NHS walk-in centres
- Your GP
- GP out-of-hours service
- Pharmacies
- NHS 111
People are reminded that A&E deals with medical emergencies only, these include:
- Loss of consciousness
- Acute confused state and fits that are not stopping
- Persistent, severe chest pain
- Breathing difficulties
- Severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
- Severe allergic reactions
- Severe burns or scalds
To find your local non-emergency option visit the NHS Choices website.
