A MAN has described his horror after returning from holiday to find the wall at the front of his property destroyed for the fourth time.

William Marsh, who lives on Colchester Road in Halstead, returned from a two week break on September 11, to find the wall outside his property almost completely destroyed.

The driver crashed into his property at around 4am on September 28 after losing control of their vehicle, hitting the curb and swerving across the carriageway and into the wall.

After four similar incidents in ten years, when a nearby mini roundabout was put in, Mr Marsh feels a serious accident is just around the corner.

He said: “When I came back I thought to myself ‘not again’.

"There is a 30 miles an hour limit here but there is no way they were doing that, you can tell from the damage.

"This is definitely the worst the damage has been."

The driver left a note offering to pay for the clean up, but in previous incidents Mr Marsh has had to claim on his insurance as the drivers fled the scene after crashing.

Mr Marsh said: "I am not worried about the money, I just don’t want someone to get killed.

“There has got to be something wrong or there is not enough signs because people are obviously going too fast, I am concerned that there is going to be an accident.

“It does not seem right to me, I could have come home and heard that someone has been knocked down outside my house.

"Maybe something is wrong and I want to make people aware.

“I do not want to wait for someone to be hurt before something is done."

The first incident took place in 2006 and cost nearly £2,000 to repair, with incidents following in 2008, 2012 and now this year - the total damage of all four crashes reaching over £7,000.

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “We understand this resident’s concerns, but standard signage is already in place, including ‘roundabout ahead’ warning signs on the approach and the usual signs indicating the direction of travel on the roundabout.

“We would like to remind motorists of the importance of obeying speed limits and slowing down if there is rain or bad weather.”
