A St. John the Baptist Primary School student is determined to do something to protect the rainforests after becoming worried that they would no longer exist by the time he is old enough to visit them.

Robin Holmes, seven, became concerned about missing the opportunity to see the rainforests after reading 'Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs'.

During the summer holidays, Robin will be selling his own toys and cakes to raise money for the 'Size of Wales' charity.

Kate, Robin's mum, said: "From a young age he has been obsessed with creepy crawlies and that has developed into rainforest animals, he is a massive David Attenborough fan and at the moment his dream is to go and live in the rainforest when he is older.

"He has seen on TV and read a lot about deforestation and pollution and he suddenly realised that it might not be there when he was old enough to go out there and explore, and he really wants to do his bit and do something about it now.

"When he realised the damage being done to the rainforest he was genuinely really worried and scared about the planet and what we are doing to the rainforests.

"He is constantly out bug hunting and making posters to save certain animals."

Having made his decision, Robin spoke to his teacher, and they started the ball rolling with a non-uniform day and cake sale.

Children, parents and staff baked treats and raised £170 to get Robin started on his mission before the school broke up for summer.

Robin is hoping to set up a stall in Halstead Market later this summer.
