A police investigation is underway after a cricket club changing room was raided on June 19.

Thieves entered the changing rooms at Chappel and Wakes Colne Cricket Club on Inworth Lane and stole wallets, phones, keys and documents.

The players were no more than a few hundred metres away on the neighbouring cricket pitch while thieves entered the unlocked changing rooms between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Chappel and Wakes Colne were playing against Tendring Cricket Club at the time and both sets of players reported items missing.

William Maythem was playing in the game and had his wallet, phone and keys stolen.

Although his keys were stolen, the thieves couldn't get into William's car as it was blocked in the car park.

He said: "It is very sad that this has happened, I am sorry it has happened to the opposition.

"They came to have a game of cricket, we all did, they come to us thinking it would be a safe enough place.

"So I feel sorry for the visiting team, they lost things as well it wasn't just the home team."

A spokesman for Essex police said: "Police are investigating a number of incidents at a cricket ground in Inworth Lane, Great Tey, on Sunday June 19.

"Between 2pm and 3.30pm suspects entered a Land Rover Range Rover through insecure rear doors. Nothing was stolen.

"Between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, thieves stole five wallets, an Apple iPhone 5S, keys, a gold Samsung S5 phone, and documents."

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to call police on 101.
