THREE Halstead youngsters have peddled hard to raise £150 for a cause close to their hearts.

Seven-year-old Charlie Underwood, his brother, Jack, 10, and friend Aiden Jackson, 10, will be tackling the three mile family bike ride on Sunday to raise money for Essex Air Ambulance.

Speaking before they youngsters took part, mum Andrea Underwood said: "We saw that the Essex Air Ambulance was doing its three mile family bike ride which is a perfect distance for them.

"They were at St Andrews School when the helicopter landed on the field when Miss Eade was taken ill.

"Later that evening they went on a tour of the Essex air ambulance station with the Halstead Scout Group Beavers section and saw the helicopter come back, which is when they learnt that they operated on donations alone.

"They are not really trained, as it is just three miles so they'll get on and keep peddling.

"They generally go on their bikes for fun when time allows and they may have a cycle Saturday just to make sure everything in working order."

Teacher Georgina Eade collapsed at the school in March and she was flown to hospital for emergency treatment.

The trio completed the cycle ride on Sunday.

Mrs Underwood added: "They all did incredibly well and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

"They have raised in the region of £150 and they are very proud of themselves - as are we."
