A CONCERNED resident is worried that a new surveillance camera near his home is invading his family's privacy.

Mr Paul Hughes, 63, lives in Kestrel Rise, Halstead, where a CCTV camera has recently been installed on the nearby over 55s residential area Nash Court.

Greenfields Community Housing manage the development which is which is currently undergoing building work.

Mr Hughes, who is 63 and a gas heating engineer, thinks the camera is high enough to see over his back fence.

He said: "I have asked Greenfields if they can show me that it does not look into my garden?

"I don't understand why it has to got to be so high, I am all for security, but I do not want cameras looking into my garden when I have my grandchildren in there."

His young relatives visit at least once a week and often more during school holidays.

Mr Hughes wants proof that the camera cannot rotate or change its view to see into his property, however he has been told by GCH that he cannot enter the site for health and safety reasons with construction work still ongoing.

He said: "They have said it is a building site, but I have got a high vis jacket, a hard hat and safety boots.

"So far they have not given me proof."

A spokesman for Greenfields Community Housing said: "We have assured Mr Hughes that the security camera is positioned to only record the rear doors at Nash Court older persons’ scheme and has been installed to provide additional security and peace of mind for our residents.

"We have also advised that we are happy to organise a visit to the site for Mr Hughes, once the building work is complete."

GCH are a community group that owns over 8,000 in the Braintree, Witham and Halstead area.

Nash Court is currently being remodelled from bedsit accommodation with shared facilities into a group of 15 self contained flats.
