Residents at a care home have made some feathered friends.

Colne View Care Home, in Dame Mary Walk, off Colchester Road, invited Suffolk Owl Sanctuary to visit with two of its owls on Wednesday.

Residents enjoyed meeting the friendly owls and even got to pet the Australian boobook owl and the English barn owl which came to the care home.

The visit was planned ahead of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch which the home is taking part in at the weekend.

Omar Taylor, Colne View home manager, said: “As we prepare to take part in the RSPB’s wildlife count, we have planned a programme of nature-related activities for residents, including painting bird boxes, filling-up feeders and even making our own fat cakes to attract more birds to our garden.

“The visit from Suffolk Owl Sanctuary is an important part of this and it has proven to be a real highlight for everyone at Colne View. Those brave enough were able to handle the owls and everyone enjoyed having the chance to take a closer look at such magnificent birds of prey.”
