Halstead Young Farmers Club is celebrating two successes.

The dodgeball team, made up of Elliott Smith, Charlie Apter, Jessica Frank, Victoria Apter, Ben Taylor, Ben Marsh, William Riddleston and Georgina Spicer, represented Essex at the national Young Farmers Club competition.

The team won both the inter-county and eastern area competitions and so qualified for the finals.

Elliott Smith, chairman of the club, said: “A different sport is chosen every year for the competition.

“We won the hockey championship last year so we were hoping to do the same this year.

“We are still pleased with fourth out of about 10 teams who competed in the national finals.”

They are hoping to regain their first place with the ultimate frisbee championship next year.

The competition took place in Staffordshire on July 4.

The men’s tug-of-war team also got through to the finals of the National Young Farmers Clubs finals.

The competition on August 1 saw 10 teams battle it out at the Tenbury Show in Worcestershire.

The team was placed joint fifth.
