A young woman is preparing to abseil 80 metres in support of a charity close to her heart.

Jasmine Grounsell, of Halstead, will down the ArcelorMittal Orbit - the sculpture and observation tower in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.

The event, on July 29, aims to raise funds for Shine, a national charity that supports people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Jasmine, who works as a healthcare assistant in A&E at Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, loves active sports.

She also knows what it is like to be a young carer, as her mum, Katrina, has spina bifida.

She added: “I have grown up with someone who lives with spina bifida and seen the complications it can bring in later life too.

“I want to give something back to Shine, who have supported us at every step - this seemed a great way to do it.

“I have never abseiled before, but I can’t wait.

“It really gets the adrenaline going."
