The mayor of Halstead has handed over a cheque for more than £1,000 to charity.

David Hume has been raising money for Braintree District Mencap for two years.

He presented a cheque for £1,336 to the charity at its Medieval banquet on June 19.

It is celebrating its 60th year of helping those with learning difficulties across the district.

Rachael Luckin, the charity’s general manager, said: “It’s wonderful.

“It is really nice to be recognised.

“Even though the first word in our name is “Braintree” we do word district wide and try not to forget Halstead and the surrounding villages.

“It was lovely to receive a cheque from David, especially such a big one.”
