Despite the variable weather, crowds of people turned out in Great Maplestead over the weekend for the Blooms in Great Maplestead event.

The village was ablaze with floral displays with many of the villagers joining in the event by placing displays at the road side.

About 12 gardens were also open to visitors over the weekend.

The volunteers in the village hall kitchen were kept busy serving refreshments from start to finish, while visitors could view the art, craft and history exhibition.

For many the highlight of the event was the Flower Festival being held in St Giles church, with all the flower arrangements being sponsored by local businesses and individuals.

The displays reflected aspects of village life, with each taking the words of a hymn as it’s theme.

The weekend concluded with a packed church singing the words to some of the hymns in a service of thanksgiving.
