The family of a selfless young man killed in a car crash want to carry on his legacy of helping others by building a memorial centre in his name.

Gennie Powell, whose son Corran died eight days after the blue Volkswagen Polo he was driving was in collision with a Ford Fiesta in Braintree Road, Gosfield, in December, has launched a fundraising campaign to raise £200,000.

Corran, known as Coz, was placed in a medically-induced coma at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, but his family later decided to switch off the life-support machine.

Mrs Powell, of Greenfields, Gosfield, hopes to raise enough money to buy a piece of wooded land in Polstead Heath, Suffolk, the size of 11 football pitches, to carry on Coz’s dream of helping others.

She said: “Originally when he was 14 he wanted to buy a piece of land to do paintballing but then he started doing survival courses. He was saving to buy land on which he could run his own survival and woodcraft courses and teach other young people to understand, be safe in and respect our countryside."
