The family of a man left in a coma following a vicious attack has been left outraged after police stopped actively looking into the case.
Alex Todd was attacked walking home from birthday drinks on February 28.
He was placed into an induced coma to recover from his injuries after being found in Butler Road, Halstead.
Two men were arrested the following day in connection with the assault.
They have since been released without charge.
However, Essex Police has announced it is not launching an appeal for new witnesses and it is not actively pursuing other lines of enquiry.
A 30-year-old man, of Halstead, and a 27-year-old man, of Sudbury were released without any further action last Friday.
But the case will remain open in case new evidence comes to light.
Luke, Alex’s son, said: “I just think it's outrageous that someone could commit an offence like that and get away with it.
“Someone must know something."
