A former Halstead PCSO has raised more than £2,000 in a nine day cycle ride.

Brian “Eddy” Edwards, 63, cycled from the north-eastern area of Scotland, John O’Groats, to Land’s End in Cornwall in just over nine days.

He raised more than £2,600 for the charity Help For Heroes.

“The bad weather lasted for three days and proved to be most challenging, both mentally and physically,” Mr Edwards said.

“The weather then turned – and remained – in my favour for the remainder of the journey.”

Throughout his trip, he carried 20kgs in equipment, including a tent which was his home for the journey.

On the way, a number of generous members of the public helped, including a cup of tea and a shower from a resident in Spean Bridge, Scotland.

After cycling up to 115 miles a day, sustaining two punctures during that time, he managed it to Land’s End, with his wife there to greet him with a surprise.

He set off on April 14.

Help For Heroes was set up to help hurt military personnel cope with their life-changing injuries.
