It is “unlikely” a village will now fund its own PCSO.
Earls Colne Parish Council was looking into buying its own PCSO at the cost of £34,000 to serve the village.
There used to be two police officers who served the village, but now there is one PCSO who they have to share with neighbouring villages, and PC Jim Carter, who works across a wide patch covering Halstead, the Hedinghams, the Three Colnes and Great Yeldham.
Vice chairman of the council, Ian Sparks attended the Essex Police Challenge in Witham, where he asked Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh about PCSOs.
