The final go-ahead for a new skate park is getting closer after funding was awarded by Essex County Council.

For four years, Halstead Town Council’s Youth Council has been trying to get the skate park in Ramsey Road replaced as they claim it is not fit for purpose.

However, all is not lost as Essex County Council has agreed to give them a grant of £25,000.

At this month’s Hastead Town Council meeting it was suggested the town council could lease the land where the skate park is to the youth council.

This would enable them to re-apply for the Braintree Council grant.

Youth council chairman Emily Caton said: “It’s great that we have been given this funding."
