A business park director has tightened security after a burglar wielding a sledgehammer broke into a car wash.

A man carrying the large tool was caught on CCTV cameras breaking into the business, based in Whitehouse Business Park, White Ash Green.

Two hundred pounds worth of damage was caused to a door and a lock after they were hit with the sledgehammer.

Nothing was stolen after an alarm sounded and spooked the pair.

The landlord of the unit, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “It happened between 6pm and 7pm.

“The alarm went off which obviously gets through to us.

“After the alarm went off, I came down and looked through the CCTV.

“It showed a guy get out of the car and get the sledgehammer out of the boot then he hit the door."
