The names of nine new stallholders set to join Halstead's Saturday market have been announced by organisers.

Mike Prince, of the Halstead Town Team, said: “I wasn’t that confident to start with. I thought we might get up to ten but from April we have got 13 stalls and it looks like we’re going to get even more.

“We are getting to the point already where we might have to say hold on, we can’t take any more.”

Mr Prince said one new stall, selling baby clothes, is taking advantage of an offer of reduced rates for new businesses.

Mick Lamb, owner of the Quinteasential Tea Shop, said: “It’s a great idea, I think it’s brilliant.

“Even if it doesn’t benefit me it’s a great thing for Halstead, a place like this wants to have a thriving market once a week."
