Screams from secret dungeons, whispers from a burial ground and echos of a tragic drowned girl make for a chilling night out this Halloween.

The normally tranquil Hedingham Castle keep, built 900 years ago by Aubrey de Vere, is revealing it’s darker side for a ghost walk inspired by events through history.

A deserted dovecote lurking by the water and a shadowy walk through the woods bring tales from the ancient castle to life - but it’s not for the faint-hearted.

The walk is not recommended for under 12s and has a new horror waiting round every corner.

Groups of brave visitors will navigate the woods and the lake, where a tragic girl is rumoured to have drowned herself after she was named a witch.

Guests will then be treated to spooky tales by candlelight in the basement of the castle.

General Manager at Hedingham Castle, Simon Orr, said: “People are walking through a very ancient place which pre-dates the Romans and the Normans.

“The castle goes back into old English myth and you wonder whether it’s ghosts might just come out at Halloween.”

Advance bookings only. Adult tickets £12.50 concessions £9 available on Hedingham Castle website. The event starts at 6pm from 29 - 31 October.
