Impatient drivers have been criticised for driving past an elderly woman lying injured in a road.

The woman, believed to be aged in her 70s, suffered hip injuries after she was in collision with a Land Rover Freelander in Summerfields, off Swan Street in Sible Hedingham.

Onlookers said impatient drivers were mounting the kerb to drive past the scene while she waited for paramedics to arrive.

Parish councillor Sally Glen said: “I was horrified to hear this poor lady was lying in the road and people were driving past because they couldn’t wait.

“I think that is appalling.

“Luckily there were some people who stayed with her and covered her up.”

Staff from East-of-England Co-op in Swan Street rushed to the injured woman’s aid following the incident at about 4.45pm on Tuesday.

Carer Sara Francombe, 44, of Summerfields, stopped to help the woman.

She said: “This road is horrible - I normally can’t get to my own house because inconsiderate people park opposite the Co-op.

“It’s a nightmare and will get worse once the 200 extra houses are finished.”
