Plans to build a new village shop in a portable cabin have been given the green light.

Councillors approved Gosfield Foundation Community Interest Company’s planning application to build a new village shop in the playing field car park at a planning committee meeting on Tuesday.

They agreed that the prefabricated structure could stay there for three years so the company could see if the business would thrive.

It was discussed that it was unlikely that they would allow the three years to be extended.

Villagers have raised almost £40,000 out of the £45,000 needed to build the shop in a portable building.

It will replace G and S News, in Church Road, which shut in January after 30 years.

Volunteers will run the new shop, which could open by November now the planning application has been approved.
