A planning application has been submitted for two new houses on land next to The Griffin pub in Parsonage Street, Halstead.

Petit One Limited is seeking permission to build a pair of semi-detached, two storey, three bedroom houses measuring 76msq and 95msq with private gardens and driveways.

A previous application to build on the site was rejected in August because the plans were not in keeping with the area.

The new plans have lowered the proposed height of the eaves and changed the style of the roofs.

However, Essex County Council has ruled that archaeological work must take place before building can begin.

The Griffin is a Grade II listed building which dates back to the early 18th century and old maps suggest the pub was part of a cluster of buildings which are no longer there.

The plans are open to consultation until October 22.
