Essex tops roadworks list

First published in Halstead News

THERE are 6,000 roadworks currently taking place on Essex roads.

The county council topped a table of 81 local authorities who responded to a Freedom of Information request about works on their network.

East Yorkshire Council came second in the list with 2,066 ongoing roadworks.

The figures released by County Hall exclude works by utility companies or external developers, but do include planned works at the design stage but not started and works completed but not signed off.

I'd say in the long term then this is good news for Essex. Our roads are pretty behind the times compared to those in places like Kent and Surrey, so hopefully the works will improve the situation.

Maybe if the potholes were repaired properly in the first place they wouldn't keep coming back. Reckon that 6000 is 5000 repeat repairs and 1000 new!!

Pot holes repaired?? Just look at all the work in Bemmerton gds in Kirby. Replacing all the footpaths, kerb and looks like a new road surface.1000's spent for no reason whilst we suffer potholes in nearly ever road in this area, "get you priorities right" local councils!!

It is March, so they are using up the unspent monety from the road maintenance budget. Any potholes not repaired by 31st March will wait a very long time.

No sign of pothole repairs coming to Acland Avenue. Guess the only way to get things done is DIY.

Boris, you will be pleased to hear that my town centres roads including roads to and going through our hospital, have been resurfaced with new tarmac and had new bright road linage placed upon it.
It seems every day I go into town, more new tarmac has been laid.
dowdy clacton is stepping up to the plate at long last and starting to look good.

I just hope when the april 5th cut off comes, much more new road topping has been laid.
