Braintree district: Councillors speak out over allowances
The district’s party leaders have criticised government calls for councillors to be paid higher allowances. A report by communities and local government committee said the amount of money paid to councillors puts many people off standing in local elections.
However the leaders of the four groups that sit on Braintree Council believe cash should not be an incentive for becoming a councillor.
