Halstead: Opera to take year off after £50,000 losses Halstead: Opera to take year off after £50,000 losses

An annual opera festival will not take place this year after organisers ran out of money reserves to fund it.

Last year’s Stanley Hall Opera, in Pebmarsh, was the 12th time the Stewart-Smith family had run the event at the Elizabethan estate.

But poor ticket sales mean the opera has run up losses of £50,000 over the past two years.

Organisers will not hold the opera this year and are looking for sponsors to allow them to hold an event in 2014.

Full story in this week's Halstead Gazette.
