More than 200 people have objected to Tesco’s plans for a supermarket in Halstead.
The public consultation ended on Thursday and is due to go before Braintree Council’s planning committee in the new year.
More than 60 individual objection letters were submitted, plus a petition signed by 234 people against plans to build the store on land off the High Street.
Residents and town councillors are worried about traffic, loss of habitat including trees with preservation orders and the demolition of air raid shelters.
