Teenagers who fancy taking on their local police force in a game of football are being urged to sign up for a summer football tournament.

Harwich Police are launching the eight week five-a-side football competition for 13 to 17-year-olds in the Harwich and Dovercourt area on Sunday.

The event will kick off at the Harwich Sports Centre, in Hall Lane, Dovercourt and will run every Sunday for eight weeks.

PCSO Ray Aylott said: "This is a chance for the youths in Harwich to be challenged this summer, we are trying to give them something to do over the school holidays and this is the ideal opportunity for them to get competitive and have some fun."

The winning team will play the winners from Mistley police station's five-a-side competition, with the overall winning team going on to play a police team.

  • Anyone interested in taking part in the tournament can collect an application form from the station or the Vibe Youth Club at The Mayflower School, in Main Road, Dovercourt.
