A month's rainfall fell in the Braintree district just 72 hours.
It comes as the Met Office issued a weather warning for heavy rainfall for Wednesday to Friday.
Essex Weather Centre meterologist Tom Defty said: “The weather station at Andrewsfield from Thursday to Monday has recorded a month’s rafinall - in total about 41 millimetres.
“A month’s rainfall fell in 72 hours.
“This follows the wettest June ever recorded and the wettest April.
“We have had pretty much three months of above average rainfall.”
However, Mr Defty warned it is difficult to predict what will exactly happen as “weather is not an exact science.”
