Halstead: Cost of commuting hits drivers

Motorists in Halstead pay more to commute to work than anywhere else in the country.

Braintree district features in the list of the top 10 council areas with the highest monthly fuel costs in the UK.

The Countryside Alliance, which conducted the research, urged the Government to reduce fuel duty to help hard-up drivers.

But rail commuters fear they are being unfairly targeted if train fares rise while petrol duty is frozen.
