Spectators will fill the streets of Castle Hedingham to watch the traditional Boxing Day hunt ride through the village.

The East Essex Hunt have hosted their annual festive hunt around the area for years but usually begin the ride in Sible Hedigham.

This year they will meet at The Bell Inn in Castle Hedingham where egg nog, mulled wine and mince pies will be on offer.

Landlady Penny Doe said: “It should be quite a spectacle.

“We expect plenty of followers, local people and families for a festive send off.”

Chairman of Castle Hedingham Parish Council Sonia Allfrey said: “I think it is a marvellous idea it is a really old tradition.”

Hunting is vile. Whether it's a tradition or not, I am so glad that fox hunting is banned. I will certainly be protesting at this event, together with other compassionate friends.
