A driver arrested on suspicion of drink driving after allegedly driving the wrong way down the A12 has been released on police bail.

Four cars were damaged, one of which overturned, after swerving to avoid a Volswagen Passat travelling the wrong way along the London-bound carriageway near Marks Tey at 7.30pm on Saturday.

A 48-year-old man from Halstead, arrested on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving, has been released on bail until April 5 while enquiries continue.

No-one was seriously injured during the incident.
