FEWER families from the Braintree and Halstead areas using Colchester crematorium means Colchester Council is having to put more money into it.
The Mersea Road venue has seen a reduction in business since Braintree’s Three Counties Crematorium, in High Garrett, opened last April.
Chelmsford Crematorium has also felt the knock-on effect, deciding to put its prices up last winter.
Matthew Gwinnell, funeral director at Colne Valley Funeral Service, Halstead, said the High Garrett venue is popular for both families and mourners, due to its closeness to home.
