Halstead: Yob Rule

Police are targeting trouble hotspots following a recent wave of crime and anti-social behaviour, which has coincided with the warmer weather.

In recent weeks, Halstead and its nearby villages have seen incidents of vandalism, arson, littering, anti-social behaviour and even duck killing.

The most recent spate of vandalism happened between Godwin Close and Link Road, Halstead, in which eight vehicles were damaged.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident which happened last week.

He has not been charged and is on police bail until July 23.

Butler Road car park, Halstead, is a renowned trouble hotspot and nearby residents fear proposals for a bus shelter there will exacerbate problems by attracting more youths.

Pensioners Pat and Mick Gunn have written to the town council to oppose the shelter and their letter has been signed by nine others.

Kings Road in the town has also been cited as a trouble hotspot by its Neighbourhood Action Panel (NAP) and the problems, which include damage to vehicles, have been raised with Halstead’s Insp Mick Pitcher.

A recent police survey in Sible Hedingham, which had 219 respondents, found residents were concerned that parents were not taking responsibility for their bored teenagers.

There was also concern about the lack of respect shown by teenagers and litter dropping.

One police pledge in the village is to alleviate potential issues arising from idle youth.
