A pensioner feels as though he has won the lottery after being reunited with his cheeky AWOL parrot.
Richard the African grey parrot, who can say “shut up Tiger” and imitate a telephone ring, went missing for four nights.
The nine-inch tall bird was caught after he landed on the shoulder of a builder in Sible Hedingham and tried to steal his lunch.
Richard, who will eat anything and wears a ring on his right foot with his name on, was taken to the RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Wethersfield.
The animal home then contacted his delighted 73-year-old owner, John Gay, who collected him today.
Mr Gay of Alexandra Road, Sible Hedingham, said: “He’s like a person to me.
“I’m over the moon to have him home and I feel like I have won the lottery."
The former lorry driver, who made a donation to the animal home, said Richard looked “a bit rough” and was in need of some TLC.
