A florist came to the rescue of a bride.

With less than 24 hours before the ceremony, Michelle Skeats' (now Brown) dream of holding a bouquet of burgundy and ivory coloured roses was dashed.

A friend in Norfolk, in charge of making flower arrangements, had let the her down.

Mrs Brown, 27, said: "I was very upset."

Dave Brown, father of the groom from Sible Hedingham, was quick to contact Anita Sadler at Fleur De Lys, Halstead, who rang around all her contacts in the hope of getting the correctly coloured roses.

Thanks to her sterling effort, Mrs Brown held a bouquet of white freesias and vendela roses at Braintree Register Office on May 10.

She said: "I was very pleased with Anita's work."

This was not the only hitch for the happy couple.

Mrs Brown, an administrator, and husband Mark, 26, were stranded at the end of their Cornwall honeymoon at Newquay airport.

Two flights to Stansted were cancelled because of thick fog.

The Braintree couple of Clydesdale Road, could not face checking their bags in for a third time and instead hired a car with three others.
