A SOCIAL group for the elderly has been renamed.

The Drop In group which used to meet at the Senior Citizens Centre in New Street is now know as Age Concern Social Club Halstead.

The club has undergone several major changes since it was set up 18 years ago, with members forced to relocate their regular meetings to The Bull Hotel and then onto the Royal British Legion's premises in The Causeway.

Having now been renamed, the club is eager to welcome new members.

A spokesman said: ""Anyone who is over fifty and lonely, or just wanting a cup of tea and a chat are welcome to come along.

"We hold a free party each year to mark our anniversary and on some other occasions.

"Visitors and new members are always welcome, so why not come along."

Members meet every Wednesday and and Thursday at the Royal British Legion and the club's next major event will be the Christmas party on Wednesday, December 19.

All members of the public are invited to attend the weekly meetings.
