A CHARITY’S “slipper swap” event has been hailed a huge success.

Community360’s slipper exchange saw people across the CO postcode swap their old worn out footwear for a new pair with a slip-proof sole.

The project aims to identify people at risk of falling and provide them with a free pair of slippers.

At the event at Weavers Court, Halstead, on Saturday people were queuing up to exchange their slippers.

Philip Rawlinson, from Community360, said: “The response was amazing. People were queuing up before the start time to exchange their old slippers for new and all free of charge.

“Community360 got rid of all their available stock except for five pairs and took orders for nine more pairs to be delivered to those who arrived and found there was no more on the day.”
