Underprivileged children in Asia are donning the colours of an amateur football club after kind-hearted club members donated shirts.

Halstead Town Football Club has passed on shirts from seasons gone by to children at an orphanage in Thailand.

The shirts were handed over by youth team manager Trevor Edwards’ daughter Lucy, who is undertaking voluntary work in south east Asia.

Halstead Town’s youth secretary Carl Pearse said the club is hopeful it can strengthen links with the orphanage so it can make further donations in the future.

He said: “Lucy took it upon herself to do some fundraising for the orphanage and the club were keen to help out.

“She came up with the idea of donating the shirts and everyone got together to see what we could offer the orphans.”

The excited youngsters posed for pictures with Lucy showing off their new shirts. Mr Pearse added: “They were really excited when they got the shirts and haven’t taken them off since they got them.

“They seem to think we are professional and have even started following us on Twitter.

“It’s great to see their big smiles and hear what it means to them.

“We are planning on working with them a bit more in the future and want to continue helping them out.”
