A LIFE-long supporter of The British Red Cross was joined by friends and family to mark a landmark occasion.

Colne View care home hosted a special party to celebrate resident Gertrude Nellie Elizabeth Hall celebrated turning 100 years old.

Mrs Hall, who is called Nell by loved ones, joined the Red Cross aged 12 and has dedicated much of her life helping the charity, whether that be working as a nurse or helping with blood donations.

Dozens of people attended Mrs Hall’s party at Colne View, in Dame Mary Walk, Halstead, and sang to her as she was presented with a cake.

Customer relations manager Kim Richardson led the tributes to Mrs Hall and was delighted with the how the celebrations went.

She said: “Nell’s life is truly inspirational; she has always been so caring and has put other people’s needs before her own. Her contribution to The British Red Cross is very commendable – she has offered a lot of support to them, in order to help others.

“Turning 100 is an incredible milestone, and it was wonderful to host a special party for Nell. It was a lovely day and the birthday girl really seemed to really enjoy herself!”
