A project aimed at cutting food wastage in Halstead will be officially launched later next week.

The community fridge scheme will be opened by Townsford Mill owner John de Bruyne on Monday, August 13 at 5pm.

The scheme will give residents the chance to leave any unwanted food which is still useable in a fridge which will be set up in the Lodge Gate building on the Causeway.

Food left in the fridge will be available to the public for free.

The scheme will be managed by the Halstead Community Fridge Trust and volunteers, both of who will be in charge of ensuring the fridge remains clean and checking the dates on all donated food is suitable.

Anyone wishing to get involved or find out more about the scheme is invited to attend a meeting which will take place at 3pm next Thursday at the Royal British Legion in the Causeway.

Volunteers who sign up to help run the scheme will be tasked with receiving goods, keeping the fridge clean and checking dates on food.

Businesses and supermarkets who wish to make donations to the scheme should contact Sandra on 07967 739887.
