Villagers will come together for an annual summer fete.

The Greenstead Green Church fete is set to be bigger and better than ever before after the organisers teamed up with Greenwatch, a community group which tackles speeding in the village.

This year’s event, which takes place on Sunday at the village playing field, will include a host of new activities not seen at previous fetes.

Proceedings will get underway from 12pm when the bells at St James’ church are rung out.

Throughout the afternoon visitors can look forward to a fantastic lineup of live music, which will be provided by bands EXIT and Blackwater Blackwater.

Abigail’s Performing Arts school will be on hand to provide entertainment with their dance moves, including the ever-popular flash mob routine. Also returning from a successful appearance at previous Greenstead Green fetes is the Elizabeth School of dance.

Alongside the dancing and live music, crowds can have a look around the dozens of different craft stalls set up and have a go at classic fete games.

Visitors with a competitive edge are invited to take part in hobby horse races. Horses can be rented for a day or bought for £10 and then customised however you choose. The winner of the races will be presented with prizes from a special celebrity, who will remain anonymous until the fete itself.

There will be plenty of food and drink on offer, with Greenstead Green Barn café running a stall with freshly made baguettes.

Organiser Julie Kemp said: “This is our first major fundraising fete but we have tried to keep it as traditional as possible in line with our village settings. The weather is looking great for the weekend so why not take some time out, rest on a hay bale and watch the entertainment and enjoy the fun.”

Parking is free and all proceeds will go to St James’ Church and Greenwatch.
