A man has been disqualified from driving for two years after he was found to be three times over the drug drive limit in Hatfield Peverel.

Louis Bell, 26, of Woodland Close, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted to drug driving and driving with no insurance.

He was also fined £300 and ordered to pay a £30 victim and £85 court costs.

Police officers stopped a Vauxhall Mokka in Chestnut Avenue at around 12.20am on April 13 and instantly smelt cannabis.

The driver, Bell, provided a saliva test which tested positive for cannabis and he was arrested at the scene.

A blood test sent off for analysis revealed he was three times over the drug drive limit.

Police made enquiries with a rental company who owned the vehicle who revealed Bell was not on the insurance to drive it.
