A church will be filled with an array of colourful flowers during a weekend festival.

St Andrew’s Church, off Parsonage street, will be hosting the Halstead Flower Festival throughout tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

More than 30 displays of flowers have been put together by community groups and schools in the town such as Halstead WI, Halstead U3A, Ramsey Academy and Richard de Clare School.

The flowers have all been put together with the theme of celebration in mind and displays have been based on a variety of events such as the First World War, the 1966 World Cup, Christmas, religious holidays, Chinese New Year and WI and the Suffragettes.

The event, which has been organised by Halstead in Bloom and the Friends of St Andrew’s Church, will also see a variety of food, craft and plant stalls on offer to visitors.

Proceeds raised from the festival will go towards the maintenance and upkeep of St Andrew’s Church.

Trustee Jen Skingsley said:“The Friends are thrilled to be running this festival on behalf of the town. It promises to be a riot of colour.

“We wanted to organise an event that focused on bringing together our community, rather than fundraising, and to build on the success of our first Christmas Tree Festival in 2017, which saw more than 1,000 people visit the church.

“Working alongside local organisations is also a key part of our strategy, and we hope to continue growing the profile of one of the town’s historic buildings. It’s not just an old building – there’s life inside it.”

Entry to the festival is free and refreshments, including a ploughmans lunch, will be on sale to all.

The event will run between 10am and 5pm omorrow and Saturday, while it will open at the later time of noon on Sunday and finish at 5pm.
