A village has been shortlisted for a regional award.

Gosfield is one of four finalists in the Essex Village of the Year Award for 2018, which is being run by the Rural Community Council of Essex.

The village had been entered into the competition by parish councillors Mandy Adams and Isla Gill who were then in charge of outlining why Gosfield should claim the prize.

The criteria for the award focuses on community spirit and how volunteers help to make their village special.

Judges were given a ten minute presentation outside the village pavilion before being given a tour and taken to places such as schools, the church and Gosfield Lake.

The winner of the competition will be announced on Wednesday.

Mrs Gill said: “We are extremely pleased to have been shortlisted. Gosfield is an easy village to showcase community spirit because it has so much to offer and some great volunteers.

“Just getting to the final is exceptional for a village as small as ours so we will wait and see what happens next week.”
