A rotary club hosted a static bike challenge in a bid to raise awareness about prostate cancer.

Halstead’s Rotary club set up two static bicycles outside the Solar Store in Weavers Court where members and the public took part in the challenge to cycle for as long as they could.

Proceeds raised on the day itself will all go to Prostate Cancer UK.

The challenge had been set up by Halstead Rotarian Tony Sale, who was delighted with the amount of people who got involved with the ride on Saturday.

He said: “I was really pleased to get the support that we did, prostate cancer is a serious issue for men, one in eight men will get the disease at some point in their lives and more than 11,000 men die from it every year. Halstead Rotary Club are grateful to everyone who showed their support.

“I am also grateful for the support of Lobb’s Cycles who provided the cycles and turbo trainers used.”

A similar event was held in Coggeshall and the two challenges combined raised a total of £350, which will now be donated to Prostate Cancer UK.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men with 47,000 men in the UK diagnosed every year.

According to Prostate Cancer UK one man dies every 45 minutes from the disease and more than 330,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.
